In 20th October 1827 Ghazi-ud-din Haider’s son Nasir ud-din Haider; took over the reigns of the province Avadh .It was believed that he not the real son of Ghazi Uddin Haider as Colonel Low a british resident in Lucknow wrote a memorandum to the company saying that Nasir was not the right heir. During his prince-hood he was virtually a prisoner of Moatamid ud Daula Agha Mir, the Prime Minister, due to his frolic practice. Once he became the Nawab, he started to live the life of great pleasure and debauchery. He squandered whatever money was left over by Ghazi Uddin Haider from the coiffeur of Saadat Ali Khan. Naturally he did not have spare time for looking into the affairs of the state for which he had no clue or perception. The administration of the kingdom was left to the hands of Wazir Hakim Mahdi and later to Raushan ud Daula. Nasir Uddin Haider cared only for his personnel amusement, and his tastes grew more and more towards degeneration with the passing of time. Thus the East India Company decided to annex the Kingdom, but somehow the Board of Directors did not agree and decided for the waited and watch policy. Rustamnagar, Mehdiganj, Dhania Mehri Ka Pul, Makkaganj, Iradatganj (where he reproduced a Karbala), and Chandganj were the major localities or Mohallas developed in his period. He had a strong belief in Astrology and Astronomy. This led him to set up an observatory at Lucknow 'The Tara Kothi' which was bedecked with exceptionally good astronomical instruments. Other major buildings which were built under his kingship were Darul Shafa Shahi, Shahi Matba and orphanage. He also added Darshan Vilas, an European style Kothi, to the Farhat Buksh complex in 1832. His spendthrift habits were mainly towards his numerous wives and tawaifs. He also invented some unconventional activities for the Shia religion.Nasir ud-din Haider was always busy in his debaucheries and inventing religious rites. He lived mostly in women quarters started dressing like woman. He used to celebrate the birth anniversaries of the Imams by personifying himself as their mother and go through the imaginary labour pains. Moreover he became very cruel especially towards women whom he suspected for misbehavior. Everyone tried there best to take him away from such habits but it was all in-vein. The King had employed a French barber who was paid 10000 rupees per month. He was also his barman and was entrusted to see that the wines were bottled in his presence and would sip it before pouring it for the King to ensure that it was safe. However his tyrannical rule was brought to an end in 1837, when he was poisoned by his own friends & favorites .Nasir Uddin Haider died after drinking poisoned sherbat(sweet drink) on the morning of 20th October 1837 .He was buried on Shah Najaf but later his body was shifted to Karbala at Iradatganj on the north of Gomti.
